BOILING SPRINGS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The vote is in and Spartanburg County will build a new Boiling Springs High School.

Spartanburg residents passed a referendum concerning the construction of the new high school on Tuesday.

There were 17,938 votes in favor of the referendum, according to unofficial results.

Spartanburg County School District Two said in a Facebook post:

"Our goal is to ensure that no matter where a child lives in Spartanburg District Two he or she will have access to a great facility in which to learn and play. Today’s vote will allow us to follow through on that promise."

The district said the Board of Trustees, District administration, faculty, and staff will soon begin taking the steps to make the vision come to reality.

In the Facebook post the district ends with a promise to the community:

"We promise that when the new BSHS opens it will be a facility this community will be proud of. This new school will serve our students well for decades to come. We also promise to be good stewards of the faith you have shown in Spartanburg Two with your support."
