Evacuations ordered in Swain, Macon counties due to wildfires

BRYSON CITY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Residents are being ordered to evacuate in areas of two Western NC counties as wildfires continued to burn Wednesday.

Swain County enacted a mandatory evacuation for all of Taylor Road and for the portion of Silver Mine Road south of the Taylor Road Intersection due to the Ferebee fire, officials said Wednesday afternoon.

Residents on Wesser Creek Road and Gassaway Road were also being asked to evacuate due to the Tellico Fire.

The U.S. Forest Service also issued mandatory evacuation orders for parts of Macon County in areas affected by the fire in the Queens Creek area of Nantahala.

People living on the Partridge Creek and Deweese Road areas were urged to evacuate and Code Red alerts were sent out.

Macon County also declared a state of emergency to help get resources to firefighters battling the blaze.
