ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate man and woman have been indicted on federal charges in a sex trafficking case involving minors.

The US Attorney’s Office said 27-year-old Ashford “AJ” Simmons of Gray Court, and 22-year-old Brittany Smith of Piedmont pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic minors for prostitution.

Officials said the couple would advertise minors online to perform commercial sex acts. The victims were 17 years old.

Simmons also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after a loaded Sig Sauer .40 handgun was found in a car where Simmons was with a minor being trafficked.

Both defendants are required to register as sex offenders and could face up to life in prison. They are awaiting sentencing.
