A judge sentenced a Spartanburg man to 25 years in prison Wednesday after the man admitted to shooting a person during a home invasion.

Aquavious Ray, 22, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, first-degree burglary, three counts of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the solicitor’s office.

The home invasion occurred about on July 14, 2015 when Ray and other co-defendants forced their way into a Country Club Road home and took two cell phones and two wallets from people inside the house. Ray shot one of the victims twice before running off

Deputies arrested Ray at a home on East Croft Circle a short time later and found him in possession of the stolen property.

Ray was also charged in an armed robbery and kidnapping at a Spartanburg County Pizza Hut in 2013.

Solicitor Barry Barnette said Ray had a previous robbery conviction and a series of juvenile offenses.

“Aquavious Ray’s pattern of criminal behavior was interrupted today with well-deserved punishment,” Solicitor Barry Barnette said. “I have zero tolerance for repeat offenders.”
