ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Police are investigating a shooting at an Asheville apartment complex that claimed a man’s life early Thursday morning.

Police said the shooting was reported around 1:47 a.m. at Deaverview Apartments, a public housing development on Deaverview Road.

Officers found 40-year-old Travis Dominick Mayfield wounded at the scene. Police said Mayfield was taken to Mission hospital and died just before 3 a.m.

On Friday, officers confirmed warrants were signed for two suspects in connection with the case.

Frederick Simpson and Travoscia Brown are charged with first-degree murder but have not yet been taken into custody.

Police said the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Simpson or Brown should immediately call 911 and not approach them.

The case remains under investigation.
