ABBEVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a school bus crash on Highway 72 in Abbeville County on Thursday.

Troopers said the school bus was rear-ended by the 74-year-old driver of an SUV. The incident remains under investigation.

Seven students were transported by ambulance for evaluation after the crash. It is unclear at this time how many students were on the bus, but the children on board were from multiple schools in the Abbeville County District.

Superintendent Jonathan Phipps said Thursday evening he was visiting the students in the hospital who had not yet been discharged.

The elderly SUV driver was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
