ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said a man is in custody after two separate incidents of assault and battery.

Deputies said during early morning hours on Aug. 31, suspect Ferris Terrill Rainey, 43, broke into an elderly couple's home on Martha Drive and repeatedly struck them in the face before fleeing the scene. There is no clear motive for the attack and nothing was stolen, deputies said.

Rainey is also accused of kicking down the front door of a home where his ex-girlfriend was staying and punching her in the face before dragging her into the yard by her hair.

According to deputies, the homeowner was woken up by the assault and chased Rainey away with a baseball bat. The victim was treated for injuries at the scene after arrest warrants indicate she suffered facial bruising and scratches.

Rainey was taken into custody after an anonymous tip helped investigators determine his identity. He is charged with first-degree burglary, three counts of third-degree assault and battery, and malicious injury to real property.

He is currently being held at the Anderson County Detention Center on a $117,212 bond.
