GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters battled a large fire that destroyed a drug rehabilitation center in Greenville County on Sunday.

Firefighters from the Parker Fire Department were called to a fire at Holmesview Vocational Rehabilitation Center on Old Easley Bridge Road around 10 a.m.

The Holmesview Center provides substance abuse treatment services, according to the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department website.

The facility was evacuated and multiple fire departments were called in to assist, dispatchers said.

By the time firefighters had knocked down the flames, a large portion of the facility's roof had caved in.

Parker District Fire Chief Steve Alverson said all patients and personnel made it out of the building safely. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

Alverson said once the fire hit the building's attic, the flames spread through the entire building. The building did not have a sprinkler system because it was built before building codes required them.

Investigators said just after noon that they would likely be on scene for several hours trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
