GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville County man won $25,000 for life thanks to a fallen acorn.

According to the South Carolina Education Lottery, the winner stated that an acorn fell and hit him on the head while he was out jogging. He used this as a reminder to stop and buy a Lucky for Life ticket on his way home from vacationing in Hilton Head.

The SC Education Lottery affirmed that the winner had two options; either take $25,000 a year for life or take a one-cash payment of $390,000.

After speaking with a professional financial advisor, the SC Education Lottery said the winner chose the annuity payout of $25,000 a year for life.

“Since my wife and I are retired, I like the security provided by the annuity," he said.

The SC Education Lottery stated that this is the first time a winner has chosen an annuity payout for any South Carolina game.

The winner claimed the Lucky for Life ticket on Monday, the ticket matched the first five numbers drawn 6, 15, 24, 25, and 33 but missed the Lucky Ball number “2” in the Nov. 3 drawing, according to The SC Education Lottery.

The SC Education lottery stated that after taxes, the winner will receive $17,000 a year for at least 20 years, more if he lives longer, and that the odds of winning the year for life ticket are 1 in 1,813,028.
