Air Quality Alert Wednesday as smoky conditions persist

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Dry, smoky conditions will persist in the Upstate as wildfires continue to burn in the mountains. As the wind picks up a bit on Wednesday and Thursday the smoke should ease up outside the higher elevations. Air Quality Alert continues until midnight Wednesday night.

During the day, highs will reach 70 with sunny skies in the Upstate and mid-60s in the mountains, with tonight dropping back into the 30s and 40s. The Air Quality Alert goes until midnight, with a chance of being re-issued tomorrow if smoke persists.

Thursday and Friday will be warmer than normal, with highs in the low to mid-70s for the Upstate and near 70 across the mountains. A cold front will push in Saturday, and that will create windy conditions and bring in much colder air by Sunday. The first freeze for the Upstate is possible Sunday night, with a hard freeze likely in the mountains.
