PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Crews were able to set up more fire breaks along the Western edge of the Table Rock fire and the parts of the East side.

The fire is 35% contained and has burned nearly 3,000 acres as of last Thursday. Some of those acres are from fire breaks created by firefighters.

Nearly 160 fire personnel worked to protect the homes in the area and finally put the wildfire out.

Firefighters worked Tuesday night to set up a new back burn to use as a firebreak. Michael Bozzo with the South Carolina Forestry Commission said it would help protect structures nearby.

“An area that the fire hasn't gotten to yet,” explained Bozzo, “It's kind of ahead of the fire. It's an area where we can get to easily and we can help secure the Wesleyan camp ground and the homes and structures around it."
