TOWNVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The SC Department of Transportation on Wednesday erected signs to rename an intersection on I-85 in honor of a six-year-old boy killed in a shooting at Townville Elementary School.

Signs marking the intersection of I-85 and Highway 24 in Anderson County as the “Jacob L. Hall Memorial interchange” were unveiled Wednesday.

SCDOT officials said Hall’s family would be presented with a replica of the sign and a framed copy of the resolution calling for the name change Wednesday evening during a ceremony at the Townville Fire Department.

Jacob was shot in the leg when Anderson County deputies said a teen gunman opened fire on the school’s playground on Sept. 28. He died at the hospital three days later. Two other students and a teacher were also wounded, deputies said.
