COLUMBUS, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Polk County Sheriff's Office said a brush fire was reported in Columbus Friday evening.

According to deputies, emergency crews were battling a woods/brush fire near the Morgan Chapel Village and Tryon Estate area.

Deputies said residents in the Morgan Chapel Village area were asked to evacuate to the Red Cross in Columbus while fire crews worked to get the situation under control.

Tryon Fire Department and multiple other departments were assisting with the large brush fire as well, according to the department's Facebook page.

Polk County residents are asked to use caution driving in the area, and fire crews have advised that the fire is being contained and suppression efforts will continue into the evening.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the Polk County fire marshal told FOX the fire spanned about 29 acres and had been 100 percent contained. The fire marshal said the fire began alongside I-26 and its cause is still under investigation.

He also confirmed that no one had been injured in the incident and that the evacuation order had been lifted, allowing the 30 or so residents evacuated from the Morgan Chapel Village area to return.
