Greenwood teacher charged in sex assault case involving young child

GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenwood teacher was charged criminal sexual conduct with a minor first degree in connection with an incident involving a four-year-old girl, according to Greenwood police.

Michael Ren Gantt, 30 of Reynolds Avenue in Greenwood was arrested on Nov. 17, according to police reports.

Officers were called to Self Regional Hospital, where health care workers advised them of a possible sexual assault involving the child victim.

The child reported that Gantt had inappropriately touched her and kissed her.

Gantt is an automotive collision instructor at the G. Frank Russell Technology Center of School District 50. The school district said Gantt has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.

Greenwood police and DSS are continuing to investigate.
