GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is saying goodbye to one of their K9 deputies named Nero who is retiring from his duties.

The Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook page that Nero began his service with them in early 2006, making him the longest serving K9 at the GCSO.

They stated Nero joined his handler, Master Deputy Cannon in 2008 and has been deployed 881 times.

Nero and Cannon have been credited with 164 apprehensions, 427 arrests, and with the service of 785 warrants, according to deputies.

Deputies mentioned Nero and Cannon are also responsible for the seizure of 28 firearms, $460,000 in US currency, 254 pounds of marijuana, 6.3 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.1 ounces of crack cocaine and 1.2 ounces of heroin.

“We are proud of these accomplishments and Nero will be greatly missed by our agency,” deputies wrote in the post. "We take this moment to say thank you to both Nero and Cannon and wish Nero well in his retirement as they continue their partnership as family."
