Report: Store clerk cut on neck by shoplifter at Upstate shopping center

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officers responded to a shopping center in Greenville County on Tuesday after reports that a clerk was attacked by a man with a knife, officers say.

According to the report, officers arrived on scene at Verdae Village located on 101 Verdae Boulevard after learning that a clerk who confronted a man seen shoplifting had been cut on the neck by that same customer.

The incident occurred at the 19 Wine and Spirits.

The store clerk said an older male suspect was observed concealing a bottle of liquor in his jacket. When the clerk confronted the man, the suspect ran out the door and the clerk began chasing him.

Shortly thereafter, a confrontation broke out and the suspect displayed a knife and cut the clerk on the neck, the report said.

When officers arrived on scene they were able to render first aid until EMS arrived.

No arrests have been made. The identity of the suspect is not yet known.
