PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

South Carolina Forestry Commission crews said Tuesday that the fire is now 37% contained. Tuesday, hand crews were back out working while choppers stayed grounded because of heavy smoke.

In total it has burned just over 6,000 acres and cost $2.6 mill. Deputy director for emergency management for Greenville County, Jay Marett said crews would still go full force if the weather allowed them to on Wednesday.

"Firefighting efforts are continuing," explained Marett, "We still have all the folks on the ground doing their work in the treacherous area."

A Table Rock State Park employee says the park will remained closed until at least Monday, if not longer. The visitors center could reopen sometime this week.
