GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A group is fighting a developer’s plans to build a four-story, brick and glass retail and office building office alongside the Main Street Bridge on the banks of the Reedy River in downtown Greenville.

The developer’s application for a certificate of appropriateness was approved by Greenville’s Design Review Board earlier this month.

Since plans were announced, the group Rescue the Reedy has emerged and argues that the building will destroy the view from Main Street and from Liberty Bridge in Reedy Falls Park.

Mayor Knox White tweeted on Tuesday that “Falls Park is ‘sacred ground.’” He said “all are working to relocate building and preserve the green along the river.”
