GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Phyllis Wheatley Community Center in Greenville planned a large Thanksgiving feast on Thursday for people in need.

The feast took place from 10 a.m. to noon at the community center, located at 40 John McCarroll Way.

Officials said the feast was comprised of:

  • 175 turkeys
  • 180 pans of mac and cheese
  • 180 pans of dressing
  • 150 pans of rice
  • 50 gallons of gravy
  • 180 pans of Green beans
  • 200 packs of dinner rolls
  • 200 pound cakes
  • 25 gallons of cranberry juice
  • 5,000 beverages

The feast was dubbed #ProjectFeed5000 because they aimed to feed 5,000 hungry people in the community. An official with the event said this year they fed 4,200.

Breylon, a volunteer at the event, said it's important for young people to get out and help in the community.

"We always go home and we got families that we're going to be with, and they don't have anything. So i just feel like we need to give back, especially as young people."
