LAKE LURE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

As of Sunday morning, officials say the Party Rock wildfire is 85 percent contained, and crews are hoping to wrap up the process before the rain comes in.

“We have two days of work to get this buttoned up and make things ready for the rain,” Incident Commander Link Smith told fire fighters at Sunday morning’s briefing, “so let’s sprint to the finish and leave things in good shape for the residents and the forest service.”

Fire crews remind residents and visitors to stay on paved roads and out of the burned area.

The Baptist Men's Convention will be taking down its field kitchen and heading home after 12 days of serving meals to fire crews.

Three public meetings were be held on Saturday for residents affected by the Party Rock wildfire. The meetings provided the public with a chance to ask any lingering questions they may have about the fire.

The main area and visitor’s center reopened Friday at Chimney Rock State Park as firefighters continued to gain control of the Party Rock wildfire. Other areas and some trails in Chimney Rock will remain closed including the Rumbling Bald climbing area.

Official said Saturday that the fire was 80 percent contained but small flames and smoke were still visible as hot spots flared up. The burned acreage remained at 7,171.

Around 300 fire fighters were still searching for and extinguishing any trouble spots that could threaten containment lines. An infrared flight over the fire revealed hot spots and crews are still finding embers hidden under leaves and other forest debris. On Friday, crews used hand-held infrared cameras to seek out the embers and hidden heat sources.

“Some people almost lost their homes during this fire and we owe it to them to ensure they’re not threatened again,” Incident Commander Link Smith stated.
