Clemson fans host funeral for USC Gamecock

Posted: Updated:

The Clemson Tigers take on the South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday night. In preparation for the game, students, faculty and fans held their annual funeral for USC's mascot, Cocky.

For the 114th year, Cocky the gamecock, the University of South Carolina’s mascot, meets his demise. For the 16th year, Sandy Edge, a Clemson alumni gave the mascot’s eulogy.

A tradition that’s been reborn on Clemson’s campus.

“What are some of the traditions they have waned away and I started asking about Cocky's funeral,” explained Edge, “I remember the workings of Gator Farr."

Hundreds gather as the precession makes its way to Cocky’s fiery resting place.

"The last couple of years have been a little kinder to the tigers so it's a little easier to write a sermon when the World is spinning properly from our point of view,” said Edge.

It may be all in good fun, but Edge hopes to see that number of total wins against USC go up after Saturday.
