SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officers say they were dispatched to an armed robbery at a Sonic in Spartanburg County on Friday after reports of a man with a knife.

Employees on scene say a male suspect walked in through the drive through at the Sonic located on E Main Street as the cashier was counting the money at the end of the night. The suspect then walked in armed with what appeared to be a kitchen knife approximately 9 inches in length with a black handle, the report said.

The suspect then grabbed the employee and held the knife to her throat saying “give me the money out of the safe and nobody gets hurt”, per witness reports. The safe was open and the employee told the suspect to take the money, which he did and then ran out the same door he came in, officers said.

When officers arrived on scene they set up a perimeter around the area and a K9 unit was called in to set up a track. The suspect was wearing a camo hoodie, black backpack, blue jeans and a black scarf that covered his face during the incident.

He got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

This case is under investigation by the Spartanburg City Police Department.
