UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Volunteers with Union County Fire Rescue hosted a lunch with Santa on Saturday to raise money as well as to spread positive holiday spirit to area children.

The department is comprised solely of volunteers and rely heavily on donations. However, the event was not all about bringing in funds for the department, but to also give out positive energy to the community.

Lunch with Santa started at 11 a.m. with special guest Marshall from Paw Patrol.

The Union County community was invited to join in the festivities as volunteers aimed to show “positive holiday spirit to children who have observed all the negative and sometimes even violent attention throughout the country”.

Parents and their children lined up to sit with Santa and Marshall for lunch. The event concluded at 2 p.m.

Chief Kenneth Black of Union County Fire and Rescue said they are striving to keep the department's funding in order to better serve the community.

"We are searching for ways to do fundraising," the chief said. "County council reduced our funding so we've had to go to other means as far as trying to keep our funding up to be able to serve the citizens of Union County."
