BEREA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said students are safe after an incident near an elementary school on Monday.

Deputies said Berea Elementary was placed on a partial lockdown after a teacher reported hearing a weapon discharged from a home near the school. After an investigation, deputies said it was determined the sound was due to fireworks, not a firearm.

All students and teachers are safe.

A district spokesperson said the lockdown was lifted.
