Spotty showers linger, heavier round 2 comes Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The heavy rain across the region will fade throughout the afternoon, leaving mostly cloudy skies, a few spotty sprinkles, and a peek or two of sunshine. Highs reach 69 for the Upstate and 67 in western North Carolina.

Tonight, under cloudy skies lows drop into the 50s, with pockets of rain every now and then. A few could be heavy, but most will stay light to moderate.

Round two of the system arrives on Wednesday. A line of showers and possibly even some thunderstorms will push into the mountains late Wednesday morning. Gusty winds and frequent lightning will be possible with the line of rain through middle afternoon as it slowly pushed into the Upstate. Highs will warm to the upper 60s in the Upstate and mid-60s in the mountains. Severe weather can't be ruled out, so we'll be monitoring the storms closely.

Skies clear Wednesday night and it gets colder for late week and the weekend. Our next chance for rain comes Sunday and Monday.
