SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Multiple fire units responded to the scene of a wood fire in Simpsonville early Tuesday morning.

The fire was burning near Hillcrest High School on Industrial Drive.

The Fountain Inn, Clear Springs and Simpsonville Fire Departments responded to the blaze around 10:15 p.m. The SC Forestry service was also called to assist.

Fountain Inn Fire Chief Ronnie Myers said the fire burned about 3/10 of an acre and was contained in 30 minutes.

A stack of lumber that was to be used for a building development was burned. Chief Myers said it was a pretty large, high stack of wood.

“The flames were probably 90 feet high or higher, and it was blowing that direction toward those woods," Chief Myers said. "If the embers had gotten over there in those woods it would have taken off."

No injuries were reported. No nearby structures were damaged, only the stack of lumber, the fire chief said.

The fire is under investigation and the chief said it is being called suspicious.
