Police: Tip from public leads to arrest of hit and run suspect in Buncombe Co.

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Officers with the Asheville Police Department have arrested a man connected to a hit and run that left a bicyclist in critical condition, reports state.

Officers said they arrested 18-year-old Joseph Henry of Asheville for a hit and run that occurred on Nov 20. Henry reportedly struck a 22-year-old bicyclist from behind while he was riding along US 25 below the I-40 bridge, according to the report, then left the scene.

Based on a tip from the public and evidence from the scene, investigators were able to connect Henry to the incident and located him in Chattanooga, TN where they interviewed him. The findings were then presented to the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office.

Henry was charged with the following:

  • Felony hit and run
  • Speeding 55 in a 35 mile per hour zone
  • Possession of a schedule 6 narcotic (marijuana)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

He is being held in the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $21,000 bond. His mugshot has not yet been released.
