A Gaffney man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of murder in a Spartanburg County shooting death, according to reports.

Shedrick Andre Savage, 34, was found guilty of murder at the conclusion of a 2-day trial after he fatally shot a 23-year-old victim at a night club on Nov 23, reports state. The victim was reputedly shot in the chest while waking in the parking lot of Universal Events on Southport Road near the Spartanburg Downtown Airport.

According to solicitor Barry Barnette, the violence stemmed from an altercation that broke out inside the club earlier that evening. Security was able to break up the fight and asked everyone to leave, but when the victim was walking toward his car with a friend, Savage drove by in a truck and words were exchanged.

The victim then tossed a bottle into the vehicle and Savage responded by shooting him through the driver’s side window, the report states. He then fled the scene.

Officers with the Gaffney Police Department were alerted to the scene and were able to track Savage and located him a few hours later. He was arrested without incident.

According to the solicitor, Savage will serve every day of his prison sentence. His prior criminal record includes convictions for multiple drug offenses and felon in possession of a firearm, the solicitor said.

Savage is serving his time in the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
