Humane Societies in TN rescuing pets displaced by fires

GATLINBURG, TN (FOX Carolina) -

The Sevier County Humane Society is helping displaced and missing pets get back home after wildfires forced thousands of evacuations in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

The organization has taken to social media to posts photos of strays being held until their owners can pick them up at the Sevier County Fairgrounds.

One dog, Buffy, was treated for smoke inhalation and burns before being reunited with her family.

The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley is also helping by collection donations for animals affected by the wildfires. Donations can be made online by clicking here.

The Humane Society said donations can also be brought to their location on Kingstone Pike in Knoxville. Priority items include:

  • Purine One food
  • Cat litter
  • Wire crates and kennels (especially large and extra large)
  • Stainless steel bowls
  • Cleaning supplies
