The American Red Cross has collaborated with partners and emergency management to open a shelter in Simpsonville for families affected by the severe weather that rolled through the Upstate on Wednesday.

A shelter has been opened at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, located on 3115 Fork Shoals Road in Simpsonville.

The Red Cross encourages those coming to a shelter to bring along the following items for each member of their family:

  • prescription and emergency medications

  • extra clothing

  • pillows

  • blankets

  • hygiene supplies

  • important documents and other comfort items

Red Cross officials also remind those seeking shelter not to forget items specifically for children like diapers, formula and toys, as well as other items for family members with special needs.
