SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Duke Energy is working to restore power for thousands of customers in the Simpsonville area after severe storms toppled trees and power lines on Wednesday.

As of 5 a.m. Thursday Duke Energy’s Online Outage Map reported 6,197 customers without power in Greenville County.

Most of the outages are in communities along and near West Georgia Road, East Curtis Street, the downtown Simpsonville area, and East Georgia Road.

Duke estimates it may take until 4 p.m. Thursday to restore all outages.

The area saw severe storms Wednesday evening and experts with the National Weather Service will investigate to see if a tornado damages several neighborhoods in the Simpsonville area.
