ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The chief executive officer of Medshore Ambulance Service confirmed Thursday that plans are in the works to sell more than half of the company to a business in Tennessee.

CEO and Anderson County coroner Greg Shore said Medshore is merging with Priority Ambulance, a larger company based in Knoxville. Shore said the decision comes after more capital was needed to continue to expand Medshore.

“This partnership will provide Medshore Ambulance Service with the necessary resources to grow our company, while maintaining and enhancing our current operations,” Shore said. “We are excited to join this national network and benefit from the expertise of its national and regional leadership and have expanded resources to continue to provide the highest caliber of service to residents in South Carolina.”

Shore said his company's business has doubled in the past three years and could double again with potential growth ventures down the pipeline. According to the CEO, Priority is the best fit for their future.

He said employees, services and contracts won't be affected by the deal and he hopes to add 200 more jobs in the coming year.

Shore will remain CEO of Medshore and it will still operate under the same name, but may expand into North Carolina at some point. He will become a minority owner of Medshore, which boasts being the state's largest privately-owned ambulance service after 35 years of service in the Upstate.

“Medshore is a great company with respected, experienced leadership and an outstanding industry reputation for medical excellence and patient care,” Priority Ambulance CEO Bryan Gibson said. “The company will be an excellent addition to our operations in the Southeast, and we look forward to completing this process to create a strong, united team.”

The deal is expected to be completed in early 2017.
