SALEM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Oconee County Fire Chief Charles King confirmed that deputies and the coroner were responding to reports of a drowning on Lake Jocassee at Devils Fork State Park.

King said a 911 call came in around 4:30 p.m. Thursday about a car that had gone into the lake.

According to King, the car was found near the motorized boat ramp at the lake. The coroner and Oconee County deputies were responding to the scene to assist with the investigation. Divers were also on the scene to help with the search.

Officials with Oconee County Emergency Services confirmed Thursday evening that a woman's body had been pulled from the car in the lake.

The coroner said a 60-year-old woman from Anderson was found in the rear seat area of the car by an Oconee County diver. EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The coroner said at this time, it is presumed that the victim drove her car, or allowed it to roll down the boat ramp into the lake. According to the coroner, the victim's pocketbook with identification inside had been discovered by a passerby around noon at the boat ramp and turned over to park rangers.

This death remains under investigation by the Oconee County Sheriff's Department and Oconee County Coroner's Office. The SC Highway Patrol also assisted with the investigation.
