CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Regan Smith will be the replacement driver for Aric Almirola this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Richard Petty Motorsports made the announcement yesterday. Almirola spent Saturday night in a Kansas City hospital after fracturing a vertebra during a fiery wreck at Kansas Speedway.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Charlotte Hornets say All-Star point guard Kemba Walker has had a successful minor arthroscopic procedure on his left knee. The Hornets said yesterday in a release that the typical recovery time for Walker's procedure is approximately six weeks.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say former North Carolina and NBA player P.J. Hairston has been arrested in Wrightsville Beach on an outstanding warrant. Wrightsville Beach Police Chief Dan House said Hairston was arrested yesterday and officials at the New Hanover County Detention Facility said he was being held on $1,000 unsecured bond.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The awards keep coming for South Carolina's Dawn Staley. The Gamecocks women's basketball coach was honored Tuesday night by the New York Athletic Club, receiving the Winged Foot Award that goes to the head coach of the national champions. South Carolina and Staley won their first title last month with a 67-55 victory over Mississippi State.
