A summer youth camp hosted by the Greenville Police Department that was renamed in honor of a fallen officer will get underway on Monday.

Greenville police said the Officer Allen Jacobs G.R.E.A.T. Summer Camp will be held through Friday at the Sterling School.

“The camp for rising 5th and 6th graders in Greenville County Schools is named in honor of fallen GPD officer Allen Jacobs as a tribute to his tireless efforts to prevent and reduce gang activity and violence,” Media Relations Officer Johnathan Bragg stated.

Jacobs was killed in the line of duty on March 18, 2016.

“The camp is designed to teach students how to resist the influence of crime, drug abuse, violence and gang involvement and foster positive relationships between youth and law enforcement,” Bragg said.
