SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate firefighter was arrested Saturday and charged with first degree burglary, per Spartanburg Police.

Officers say they responded to a residence on the 100 block of Rosemary Road in reference to a breaking and entering at about 6:20 a.m.

Police spoke with the home owner’s daughter who said her ex-boyfriend, 21-year-old Shattorion Johnson of Wellford, broke into the home and was standing in front of her bedroom door watching her sleep. Once Johnson noticed she was awake he ran out of the home through the back deck, she told police.

Shortly after the incident at 8:10 a.m., a warrant for first degree burglary was issued for Johnson’s arrest.

Johnson is a fire fighter with the Croft Fire Department.

Per the fire chief, Johnson is suspended until the investigation is clear. He said he is very surprised at the arrest and that this is "very out of character" for Johnson.
