SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County sheriff said two people are in custody after leading authorities on a chase in a stolen pickup truck early Tuesday morning.

Deputies said they tried to pull the vehicle over in the River Street area but the pickup, a Ford F-150 that matched a description for a suspect's vehicle in another case, did not stop.

The pickup dropped off a passenger at one point and then sped off before deputies said the chase continued about four miles. The pursuit ended just before 4 a.m. on Goldmine Road when the pickup crashed on its side near the intersection of Nichols Mountain Road.

Deputies said the driver ran off on foot but was apprehended in the woods.

The man was taken to the hospital for observation but was not injured in the crash, deputies said.

Rutherford County Sheriff Chris Francis identified the suspects as 33-year-old Susan Brooke Abernathy and 29-year-old Joshua Kyle Warren. The sheriff said the pair were persons of interest in a shooting which injured a Rutherford County shooting on June 6.

In the shooting incident, Rutherford County Sheriff Chris Francis said a blue pickup truck fled a traffic stop. Francis said an occupant of the truck opened fire at pursuing deputies, injuring one who was hit in the face by bullet fragments.

Francis said three suspects were in the truck.

The deputy was later released from the hospital.

Francis said the truck from the incident had been painted white and was located in South Carolina with a Florida tag.

Abernathy is charged with grand larceny and fugitive from justice. Warren is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and probation violation.

On Friday, detectives charged Abernathy and Warren in connection with the shooting. Abernathy faces one count of attempted murder, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony flee to allude arrest and rear lamps violation.

Warran is charged with attempted murder, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.
