Deputies: Family members plead guilty to years-long series of break-ins, thefts

MAGGIE VALLEY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Three family members pleaded guilty to breaking into and stealing from 16 businesses and homes in the Maggie Valley and Waynesville area.

The crimes happened over a three-year-period. Investigators made the connection in May 2016 and eventually arrested Mark Goodson, his wife Janet Goodson, William Richard Goodson Jr., Mark’s brother.

On June 7, all thee Goodsons pled guilty, according to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office and Waynesville Police Department recovered and return large quantities of stolen property including weapons, tools and other various home goods. More than $100,000 in stolen property was recovered.

Deputies said Mark and William Goodson were sentenced to a minimum of 84 months and a maximum of 173 months in prison. Janet Goodson was sentenced to 18 months of probation time.
