SALEM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Oconee County Coroner's Office said an elderly Upstate man was killed when his mower overturned into a pond.

Coroner Karl Addis said the victim's daughter called 911 in regards to the accident on Cross Creek Road around 11:40 a.m.

The coroner said 82-year-old Earl M. Rowland was mowing grass near his daughter's home, using a Kubota F2260 front deck mower with rear steering.

While operating the machine on a hill toward a pond, the coroner said Rowland made a right turn and overturned into the water. He was pinned beneath the mower and died from drowning and blunt force trauma.

His death was ruled an accident.
