Police: Greenville K-9 hit by pipe-wielding suspect

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville Police Department said a suspect is facing multiple charges after an assault on a K-9 officers.

On Tuesday, police were dispatched to a disturbance on Trotter Street where they said a victim was cut in the neck with a box cutter.

K-9 Rocky along with handler Officer Burdette located the suspect on Dobbs Street where police said he grabbed a large metal pipe and brandished it like he was going to swing at officers.

Officers said the suspect refused commands to drop the pipe and when Rocky tried to take him down, the suspect hit him with the metal pipe.

Another officer took the suspect down from behind.

Officers have not yet identified the suspect but said he is charged with assault on a police K-9, attempted murder, burglary and resisting arrest.

Rocky has recovered from the incident and is ready to return to patrol.
