WOODFIN, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Woodfin Police Department and an Asheville burger joint are working together to raise funds for the Woodfin Police Chief who is battling a host of medical issues.

Chief Brett Holloman, a 27-year veteran of the Woodfin Police Department, was diagnosed with leukemia several years ago, according to his wife Melissa. Since then he has had numerous doctor visits, a bone marrow transplant and countless other surgeries.

As Chief Holloman continues to fight with the help of his family, his law enforcement family has also stepped in to help.

The Police Department is hosting a benefit on Thursday at 911 Burgers and More located on Stone Ridge Boulevard in Asheville. All proceeds go to the continuing care of Chief Holloman.

"Please join us this Thursday, 06/15/2017. All proceeds will go to the continuing care of our Chief. Chief Holloman is one of the greatest men that our Officer's have had the privilege to serve under. Of course, if you asked him, he would tell you that the privilege is his. He is the fighter among fighters and the man among men. Help us in showing our appreciation to him in his current battles."

The burger restaurant also had some kinds words to share about the chief.

"911 Burgers and More will be having a fundraiser this Thursday, June 15th for Chief. He is a man very dear to us and has supported us from day one! Proceeds from sales Thursday will go to his GoFundMe. We will also have a donation jar set out for additional donations. This is Woodfin's Police Chief and our friend. Please come out Thursday and show your support!"

Anyone who wants to donate but is not able to make the fundraiser can also donate to the cause via this GoFundMe account.
