HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Assistant Honea Path Fire Department Chief Paul McGaha said an Anderson County home was destroyed in an early morning fire on Wednesday.

The call came in just before 3 a.m.

McGaha said crews from Honea Path, Belton, Friendship and Williamston Fire Departments all responded to the scene at Oak Drive Extension off West Greer Street in Honea Path. He said flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the home as first responders arrived.

The owner of the home that burned told FOX that he wasn't staying there at the time because he works in construction and travels - McGaha said the homeowner had been at his grandmother's house. The homeowner said the house hadn't had utilities for months and had no clue what could have started the fire.

McGaha said no injuries were reported in connection with the blaze, but that the house was a total loss, sustaining heavy roof damage and water damage throughout the inside.

Duke Energy also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
