Police: Man charged after shooting at officer, leading chase

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials with the Asheville Police Department said a man has been charged after shooting at officers early Wednesday.

According to police, around 2:45 a.m., an Asheville officer initiated a traffic stop on Brevard Road near I-26.

Police said the driver, 39-year-old Justyn David Ladet, refused to stop and fired several shots at the officer with a firearm, initiating a pursuit.

The chase began on I-26 eastbound and police were assisted by the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, Fletcher Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff's Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Police said the chase ended on US 25 in Henderson County after the suspect crashed his vehicle.

Ladet was taken into custody. Police said the officer was not injured during the gunfire or pursuit.

Charges are expected for Ladet in connection with the incident.
