CHEROKEE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

SCDOT officials said portions of I-85 SB will undergo repairs after a fiery, fatal crash in Cherokee County Tuesday night.

Just before 8:30 a.m., our FOX Carolina crew at the scene reported that one lane had reopened on the SB side of I-85 near the crash.

SCDOT officials said just before 10:30 a.m. that all northbound lanes had reopened as well as the left southbound lane, but that the right southbound lane would remain closed.

SCDOT said the exit 106 SB off ramp will remain closed to allow repairs to the crash site - about 300 feet of both southbound lanes were damaged during the incident.

SCDOT released the following information on repairs to be made to the lanes damaged along I-85:

Current plan is to repair asphalt in right lane and then shift lane closure and make repairs to left lane pavement. Expect work to last throughout the day and into tonight.

Approximately 400 feet of guardrail damaged. On-call contractor to be used to replace guardrail tomorrow night. Truck parts remain behind guardrail, and wrecker is to come back tonight to remove remaining debris.  DHEC also on site.

We ask motorists to use with extreme caution when approaching this work zone. Please obey all speed limit and directional signs in place to help guide you through this area. Check SCDOT’s 511 traveler information system for current traffic conditions. http://www.511sc.org/

On Thursday, the coroner identified the deceased driver as 45-year-old Emmanuel Owuraku Abeasi of Braselton, GA. Abeasi was positively identified by dental information.

Abeasi was an independent hauler coming from Newnan, GA and heading to New York when the crash occurred.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
