GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children continues to fight for answers in the death of a young child whose body was found more than four decades ago.

Investigators found the boy's skeletal remains in a blue metal storage trunk in the basement of a Greece, New York apartment complex on March 9, 1976.

NCMEC said he had brown hair, was found wearing a light blue pajama top with a deer design on the left chest area, and a plastic diaper fastened with stainless steel pins.

According to officials, a large bulge on the back of his skull indicates the child likely couldn't walk and had developmental delays.

He is believed to have spent the first few years of live in the northwest U.S. before moving to the southeast U.S.
