GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Attorney General is warning residents to a misleading online promotion regarding tobacco settlement money.

AG Alan Wilson said the promotion claims consumers can sign up to claim thousands of dollars per month from the tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.

Individuals are asked to enter their credit card number to purchase a monthly subscription for information about purchasing tobacco revenue bonds. Wilson said it can be difficult to cancel and obtain a refund.

The Master Settlement Agreement was signed in 1998 and there is no fund for private citizens to apply to receive money each year. The funds go to 46 states and 5 territories included in the agreement.
