GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters were called to an unusual rescue on Thursday night - a dog trapped in a well.

The incident occurred on South Fairfield Road. Firefighters said the dog's owner was doing work and removed the lid to the 30-foot well.

The dog reportedly tried to jump across the well to get to his owner and fell in.

Firefighters tried to use a bucket to get the pup out, but it was unsuccessful. Next they tried to lower a firefighter down, but the drop was too dangerous. Finally, crews used a rope to lasso the dog back up.

Firefighters on scene provided oxygen to the small, black dog.
