FBI: Simpsonville man arrested in human trafficking case

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The FBI said a Simpsonville man has been arrested and charged with several offenses related to human trafficking.

Agents said Cornelius Shontea Lyles, 38, who uses the alias Premo Finesse, was arrested Wednesday. He is charged with human trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; transportation of another for the purpose of prostitution; coercion and enticement for the purpose of prostitution and using facilities of interstate commerce to promote prostitution.

“Again, human trafficking is proven not to be a problem in a distant location, but right here in South Carolina,” said Special Agent in Charge Alphonso Norris.  “I want to commend the efforts of all the agents and officers who worked on this investigation.  Being able to stop the horrific exploitation of these women is a gratifying result for all the investigators.  The public is also asked to contact the FBI if they have any information related to Lyles.”

Agents said Lyles was communicating with a person he believed was an out-of-state female and arranged to fly her to Florida where she would work as a prostitute and give Lyles a cut of her earnings.

The FBI said the investigation revealed that Lyles facilitated and directed prostitution activity in locations across the East Coast.

Lyles could face up to life in prison if convicted.

This case is being investigated by the FBI, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Spartanburg Police Department and Greenville Police Department.

The FBI said victims and anyone suspicious of human trafficking activity should call or text the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline at 888-373-7888.
