EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

On March 22, Alison Ballard's world came crumbling down. Her teenage son, Hank, took his life.

In an instant, her life was forever changed.

"Suicide is not a good solution,” said Alison Ballard. “I mean, it hurts so many people and I don’t think Hank really realized when you’re in that depression, you don’t see a way out.”

Hank Ballard was only 13.

His mom can only speculate on why, but looking back, she says there were warning signs.

Ballard said she wants other parents and kids to know that there is help out there.

"Every day, regular people have mental illness. Hank was an extremely bright child, and that made it difficult to fit in with regular people, which he had anxiety about,” said Ballard.

Hank’s mom says she wants her message to be heard so other parents don not have to go through the same tragedy.

"I’m a mother who loved my son and I don’t want other people to have to go through that," said Ballard.

If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, help is available.
