FOUNTAIN INN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said a man has been charged in connection with a death investigation on the 200 block of Fountain Inn Drive Saturday morning.

Deputies say they received a call in regards to a gunshot victim shortly before 3 a.m. When they arrived on scene they did not locate a victim, but they did find enough evidence to substantiate the reports.

Later in the morning, deputies say they were able to locate the suspected shooter. They were also able to locate a victim in a ditch off of Burdette Road near Howard Drive in Simpsonville after a call from a passerby around 7:15 a.m.

Investigators confirmed the victim was the same person who made the initial call of being shot around 3 a.m.

The coroner said the victim's cause of death was gunshot wounds to the head. It was ruled a homicide.

The coroner identified the victim as 48-year-old James Calvin Hill of Simpsonville.

Deputies have arrested 36-year-old Diderikcous Jacobi Hill in connection with the homicide that occurred on the 200 block of Fountain Inn Drive. Deputies said after the initial call this morning, they were able to make contact with Hill and an investigation got underway.

Deputies learned during the investigation that prior to the shooting, Hill had an altercation with the victim and had pulled out a gun and opened fire, fatally striking the victim at least once.

Hill has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center where he remains without bond.

He will go before a circuit court in the next 30 days for his next bond hearing.

The victim's uncle said the family will do whatever it takes to ensure the murder suspect stays behind bars. He said he feels sorry for him but he hopes his situation will serve as a lesson for young people.

“I feel sorry for him. His life is gone now for making mistakes. His life should be an example to all these young people out here carrying weapons and on drugs and doing all types of things. That’s not a way to live and it just takes a second to get in a world of trouble. I feel sorry for his family and I will be praying for his family, but when you commit those kind of crimes, you just got to pay for it," David Hill said.
